HOUSTON: BIGGER AND BOLDER
More than $1.5 billion has been poured into Texas’ largest city, and the
latest development to spring from that massive investment is a brand-new convention playground. Wander through Avenida Houston, which
surrounds the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRBCC), and
you’ll see new restaurants, public art installations, and hotels, such as the
1,000-room Marriott Marquis Houston and its Texas-shaped lazy river.
The front of the GRBCC has been transformed to include five new
restaurants and a flexible outdoor event space, grand entrance, full
concourse and many stunning art pieces. Guests also have gorgeous
views of Downtown Houston from inside the building and on one of
its many balconies. The Marriott Marquis brings restaurants to the
area, providing local and diverse dining options, adding to the two
restaurants already in the Hilton Americas-Houston.
Marriott’s new hotel to the north end of the GRBCC has amenities
you won’t find anywhere else: rooms with gorgeous skyline views and
excellent dining options. However, the feature that has taken national
attention is its Texas-shaped lazy river. The Marquis will become a
hotel where convention attendees will want to stay just one more day.
Guests will not be short on activities, as the GRBCC sits next to
the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston
Rockets, Houston Astros and dozens of annual concerts. A few short
blocks away, soccer fans can see the Houston Dynamo or Dash, the
professional men’s and women’s soccer teams. The area around Avenida
Houston also has many other activities and dining options for guests,
as well as unique meeting spaces for evening receptions.
Once conference sessions are done for the day, you will be able to
taste why Houston is named the "Culinary and Cultural Capital of the
South." The city’s diverse culture has fused to bring out new flavors and
classic favorites that are sure to please. Avenida Houston will serve as
the gateway to excellent cuisine from land and sea, and only feet from
