In 2017, seven large-scale international congresses took place in the capital, as the
city of Madrid continues to consolidate its position as a leading destination for

ATM Congress, now in its fifth year in the city — have confirmed that they will be
staying in Madrid for the next few years.

data on international congresses held in 1,600 cities across the world. In addition

edition of TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards in 2017. Representatives from
Hotel Orfila, Barceló Emperatriz, Artiem Madrid, Artistic B&B and Only YOU
Boutique Hotel Madrid collected the awards in a ceremony held on 1 March in the
Royal Hall at the historical building of Casa de la Panadería in Plaza Mayor. The
event, which was attended by Miguel Sanz, the Director of Tourism of Madrid,
among others, highlighted the hotel sector’s firm commitment to its customers,
whom it caters to with unmatchable value for money, a range of exclusive services
and a long list of experiences that encompasses everything from gastronomy to
culture and leisure.
Important international congresses
Madrid was the setting for some of the most important international congresses
in the medical and air transport sectors in 2017. They are the Annual European
Congress of Rheumatology ( 14,000 delegates); the European Congress of Medical
Oncology ( 20,000 delegates); the World ATM Congress ( 7,000 delegates); the
European Congress of Osseointegration ( 3,000 delegates); the 54th European Renal
Association and European Dialysis and Transplant Association ( 10,000 delegates);
the 22nd Congress of the European Haematology Association ( 15,000 delegates);
and the Annual World Dental Congress ( 12,000 delegates).
