Golf courses featuring multimillion-dollar waterfalls, man-made forests, and replica
holes from some of Scotland’s greatest
layouts highlight one of the world’s more impressive
dimple ball menus.
Is this golf heaven? Absolutely. It’s also
Encompassing more than 60 courses within a
45-minute drive from the Strip, Las Vegas offers
meeting attendees tremendous variety and a wealth
of memorable experiences.
“Las Vegas’ entertainment, casinos, and hotels
are world-class and so are our phenomenal golf
courses,” says Julian Dugas, director of sports
marketing for the Las Vegas Convention Visitors
Authority. “We have every type of golf imaginable
such as desert style, traditional parkland, and
Some of the best golf architects in the game have
fashioned high-profile courses in and around Las
Vegas. The star-studded list of designers includes
Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer,
Johnny Miller, Rees Jones, and Arthur Hills.
Dave Turley, operations manager for Golfpac
Travel, a 35-year-old Orlando, Florida-based
golf travel company that plans trips to over 40
destinations in the U.S., Caribbean, Scotland, and
other international locales, says Las Vegas has so
much spectacular golf that it would be attractive
even without all the great off-the-course activities.
“It’s the golf experiences that bring our customers
back year after year,” says Turley. “Of course, it’s also
nice not to worry too much about what they have do
after the sun goes down.”
Like Vegas’ incredible hotels, casinos, restaurants,
and attractions, its golf courses also create
excitement for meetings and incentive programs with
their unique designs. Golf architects have utilized
massive earth-moving efforts, expansive waterfalls,
exotic water features, and tree and foliage replanting
to develop entertainment-style layouts
that look decidedly different from the
courses attendees play back home.
Las Vegas courses are comparable
to its meeting-oriented hotels in
accommodating a wide variety of
needs and desires. Whether planners
are looking for a big-name golf
celebrity, trick shot artist, bagpiper,
or musical group to entertain at an
event, Las Vegas golf directors are
experienced and innovative and
can help produce a successful
tournament and special event that
attendees won’t soon forget.
If planners want to incorporate
a professional golf tournament into
an itinerary, the possibilities include the Shriner’s
Hospital for Children Open, an official PGA Tour event
in October at TPC Summerlin, and the Wendy’s 3Tour
Challenge in November, a tournament at Rio Secco
Golf Club pitting three star players from the PGA
Tour, LPGA Tour, and Champions Tour against each
other in head-to-head competition.
While Las Vegas has an impressive inventory of
high-end golf facilities, it also has a full range of
resort, daily fee, and public courses to fit a variety of
tastes, needs, and budgets.

Selecting a golf course to play in Las Vegas is a bit
